Calculation of the Effective Diffusion Coefficient for Heterogeneous Media

چکیده
1 Introduction In this paper we discuss the range of the applicability of our recent approach [1] for the effective diffusion coefficient (mobility) in two-phase systems, e.g. composite materials, porous media, polymer blends, matrices with inclusions. We derived the equation for D eff as a function of the partial diffusion coefficients of a defect (or probe particle) in inclusions, D 1 , with the fractional concentration Φ=0...1, and the diffusion coefficient in the host matrix, D 2 , taking into account the energy barrier for the particle penetration into an inclusion. We compare our results with previous theories, starting with the generally–accepted Maxwell-Garnett formula [2] and finishing with very recent studies [3].

Random heterogeneous media: Hicrosttucture and improwed bounds on effective properties
The purpose of the present article is to review recent advances made in the determination and calculation of improved bounds on the effective properties of random heterogeneous media that depend upon the microstructure via n-point correlation functions. New breakthroughs made in the quantitative characterization of the microstructure of heterogeneous materials are also reviewed. The following f...
متن کاملPseudo Steady State Gas Flow in Tight Reservoir under Dual Mechanism Flow
Gas reservoirs with low permeability (k<0.1 mD) are among the unconventional reservoirs and are commonly termed as "Tight Gas Reservoirs". In conventional gas reservoirs that have high permeability, the flow of gas is basically controlled by the reservoir permeability and it is calculated using the Darcy equation. In these reservoirs, gas flow due to gas diffusion is ignored compared to Dar...
متن کاملAccounting for adsorption and desorption in lattice Boltzmann simulations.
We report a Lattice-Boltzmann scheme that accounts for adsorption and desorption in the calculation of mesoscale dynamical properties of tracers in media of arbitrary complexity. Lattice Boltzmann simulations made it possible to solve numerically the coupled Navier-Stokes equations of fluid dynamics and Nernst-Planck equations of electrokinetics in complex, heterogeneous media. With the moment ...
متن کاملComparison of finite-difference transport and diffusion calculations for photon migration in homogeneous and heterogeneous tissues.
We analyse the limits of the diffusion approximation to the time-independent equation of radiative transfer for homogeneous and heterogeneous biological media. Analytical calculations and finite-difference simulations based on diffusion theory are compared with discrete-ordinate, finite-difference transport calculations. The influence of the ratio of absorption and transport scattering coeffici...
متن کاملThe Contribution of Molecular Diffusion in Silica Coating and Chemical Reaction in the Overall Rate of Reaction of Aluminum Hydroxide with Fluosilicic Acid
The kinetic of the heterogeneous chemical reaction of aluminum hydroxide and fluosilicic acid was studied. It was found that the diffusion of the reactants through the porous silica coating to the aluminum hydroxide surface and the interfacial chemical reaction between the diffusing reactant and aluminum hydroxide platelets control the overall reaction rate. These two phenomena were studied...
